Movie Review: The Girl who Leapt Through Time

29 07 2007

Alright, this is my first time reviewing a movie, so please try not to be too harsh on me. Thanks~ ^^;

A brief introduction for those have yet to catch the movie. Obviously, movie reviews will contain spoilers. So turn your heads if you have intentions of catching the film yourself.

This movie is about a normal high school, tomboyish girl, Makoto Konno, who chanced upon a time device that came from the future and accidentally used it on herself without herself realizing it. It was revealed that the time device actually belongs to a boy, Chiaki Mamiya, who came from the future. He is one of Makoto’s closest friend, along with another guy.

After realizing that she had the ability to leap backwards in time, she used it for a lot of trivial, everyday activities. She used it to extend her karaoke session; everytime someone informs them that their session is almost over, she would leap back in time so she, and her friends, could continue singing.

Makoto had told her auntie, whom she calls “Witch Auntie”, of her powers. Whether she really believed Makoto’s story or not I could not tell but still she offered Makoto advice on her newfound powers. After Makoto told Witch Auntie that she uses her power to make things go her way (trivial things, though), she told Makoto “But don’t people losses when you gain?”

Indeed, there were. Previously Makoto had made a fool out of herself when she tried to fry tempura during a Home Economics lesson. However, after a time leap, she made a guy behind her switch positions with her. The guy screwed up, too AND he offended a group of guys during that accident (maybe the oil spilled onto them or something). Since that, the group of guys have been bullying Makoto’s victim (sorry I forgot the pitiful guy’s name). Makoto’s victim, reluctant to get bullied, fought back. Makoto’s victim eventually had a mental brokedown and throwed a fire extinguisher at the one who made things this way, Makoto. Chiaki then tried to protect Makoto by shielding her from the fire extinguisher. Makoto who also wanted to protect Chiaki, used her time leap ability to jump back in time a few moments back and managed to pushed Chiaki out of the flying object’s way. However… another girl got hurt instead.

A lot more things went through, and it will take me days to finish writing if I were to write them out. Do watch the movie, it was really nice.

Author’s views:

I liked the movie. It had a good blend of humour and some heart-stopping scenes. During the scene where Makoto and Kouske were about to get into an (different, but similar) accident , I swear to Lelouch that my heart stopped beating for half a second. It was that thrilling. Chiaki suddenly declaring that he is from the future really gave the show a big twist. Hmm, not much bad points about the movie, IMO. I could be biased, cause it’s Anime. AHA. Anyway, I think it’s very worth the time to watch this show. I give it 4/5!

A Day In Orchard Alone

25 07 2007

Heard of the Anime movie, “The Girl who Leapt Through Time”? I just came back from watching it.

I wanted to very much watch it because I was not able to catch any of the other previous Anime movies (like Howl’s Moving Castle, etc) in the cinemas before, so I really wanted to experience the feeling of watching Anime on the big screen.

Unfortunately, none of my friends were able to make it because they either have school or they simply did not want to watch it. Since I really wanted to watch it, I had no choice but to venture Orchard alone because today was the last day it would be aired. I was really lucky to be able to catch it even though the movie had been airing for quite a long time. It had only one timeslot left which was at 1PM!

Note: I have neither been to a movie nor tour Orchard road alone before in my life. Yes! I did two “first-time-in-my-life” things together!

After alighting at the Orchard MRT station and made my way to the exit above, there stood two paths before me I could take. One is left and the other is… yes. Right. Left and right. I did not know which way was the correct direction for Orchard Cathay. 50-50. After some recalling, I took the left path and continued until Far East Plaza was in my sight. I was not able to see Orchard Cathay even after walking such a long distance so I phoned a friend for some enlightenment. He told me to continue going left, so I did.

But it was WRONG! It was wrong from the very start! Anyway, I managed to reach my destination in time and purchased a ticket which only costed me $6.50! Woot, cheap!

All in all, spending a day alone and watching a movie with myself was not all that bad. I believe it is not that bad to go out with yourself once in a while. Though I did get a little lonely at some certain points of time. But it was still good overall; I would continue to watch movies alone if I have to.

After the movie I went to Kinokuniya to check out some manga and the latest Harry Potter book, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, and the Japanese Harry Potter books. OH BOY, the Japanese versions were very expensive! Guess how much they costed? They were $90 plus for the thicker titles (split into two books) and $50 plus for the thinner ones! What the ph**k hell!? The reason the thicker titles were split into two parts is because of the format Japanese books are written. Like mandarin books, they are written (and read) from right to left, one line by one line.

I really want to read them though. Both Japanese and English version. I would probably try to borrow the the English version of The Half-blooded Prince and the latest title, The Deathly Hallows, from friends and save up enough money for the Japanese versions. Anyone here kind enough to lend me your sixth and the last book of Harry Potter? Please? Pretty pretty please? =(

I would probably comment on the movie “The Girl who Leapt Through Time” a little and share my thoughts on it. Kind of like a small movie review. So please look out for it. People who have seen this movie too are welcomed to share their views on it.

フリーダム、発進!/ Freedom, Launch!

24 07 2007

English Ver.

Yes… Yes! YES! FREEDOM! The sweet, satisfying feeling of freedom! I regained my wings of freedom since yesterday but I apologise for not announcing the good news to everyone immediately. I was too indulged in Granado Espada. Meanwhile, let me laugh at people, like Nadiah, who still have to continue with their industrial attachment till August! Not to mention that they only get to present their Viva in AUGUST! *points and laughs*

But soon… I will be looking for a job. I need money! Lots of money! So I can buy a lot of the stuff that I haven’t bought for centuries. I haven’t buy mangas for a long, long time and I haven’t been to the arcades for more than a month! OH GUILTY GEAR!!!

No! Wait… End? What am I talking about!? Tomorrow will be the day that I regain my freedom I had lost several months ago! It is the beginning of my freedom!

悪魔 / The Devil

20 07 2007

English Ver.
I took an online quiz… and it says You are The Devil.
RAWR. I took the test three times and I got the result everytime. What it says:

Materiality. Material Force. Material temptation; sometimes obsession.
The Devil is often a great card for business success; hard work and ambition.

Perhaps the most misunderstood of all the major arcana, the Devil is not really “Satan” at all, but Pan the half-goat nature god and/or Dionysius. These are gods of pleasure and abandon, of wild behavior and unbridled desires. This is a card about ambitions; it is also synonymous with temptation and addiction. On the flip side, however, the card can be a warning to someone who is too restrained, someone who never allows themselves to get passionate or messy or wild – or ambitious. This, too, is a form of enslavement. As a person, the Devil can stand for a man of money or erotic power, aggressive, controlling, or just persuasive. This is not to say a bad man, but certainly a powerful man who is hard to resist. The important thing is to remember that any chain is freely worn. In most cases, you are enslaved only because you allow it.

Not that bad afterall. Why don’t everyone take the test too and tell me the results at the comments section? =D I don’t know what other cards there are besides Devil.

ナップファテスト / NAPFA Test

19 07 2007

English Ver.

I just had my NAPFA test today! And… the results were:

Although my results were not exactly the best or one of the best out there, it exceeded my own expectations of myself. GOOD JOB LELOUCH! I was so sure that I would not be able to make it. Seems like the last minute training programme did me some good, after all! Well, I was not able to get my hands on a Gold award but I guess a Silver is just as good since there are no real merits in having Gold or Silver award. The main purpose of the Silver award is just so that guys can enter BMT (or whatever it is, I am not sure about such stuff man) two months later than guys who either got Bronze or failed the NAPFA test. I was so disappointed when I heard that we do not get money for having Gold or Silver awards in NAPFA. I have always thought that we do! Oh man… =(

I said in the above Japanese version that I might re-take the test but now upon learning the harsh fact that we poor guys do not get money for it… I say forget it 😛

With this, there is one less obstacle standing between me and my freedom!!1!<SHIFT+1>!! Now all there is left… THE VIVA.
